Jennifer Reekers, AuD

Jennifer Reekers, AuD
Founder, Owner & Doctor of Audiology

Dr. Jennifer Reekers, co-owner of Heartland Hearing Center, graduated from the #1 ranked audiology program in 2009, The University of Iowa, with her Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degree. As a small child, Dr. Reekers experienced chronic ear infections, multiple sets of ear tubes & the discovery of a cholesteatoma (abnormal skin-mass that grew behind her left eardrum) requiring surgery to remove the tumor & reconstruct her eardrum. Her older brother also experienced the identical medical history & surgery, along with hearing loss since age four. Given her own mild-to-moderately severe hearing loss, Dr. Reekers offers a unique perspective on wearing a hearing aid and living with hearing loss.

As a clinical audiologist, Dr. Reekers has primarily worked in Veterans Affairs hospitals & private Ear, Nose, and Throat clinics. The bulk of her practice was spent doing what she enjoys the most: diagnostics, hearing aid fittings, and counseling.

"What I find most rewarding is creating relationships with patients. I value that human connection & enjoy getting to know the person. Private practice allows me to spend the time I feel patients deserve. My goal is to educate & create empowered patients that are comfortable working with me to ultimately improve their quality of life."

Dr. Reekers is Minnesota bred but her acceptance into the doctorate program at The University of Iowa brought her to the corridor in 2005, where she met her husband. Outside of the office, Dr. Reekers enjoys traveling, playing board & card games & spending time with her nieces & nephews, as well as her husband & cats.

Diana Kain, MA, CCC-A
Founder, Owner & Audiologist

Diana Kain, co-owner of Heartland Hearing Center, has been practicing audiology since 2001 primarily within the Diagnostic Audiology Clinic at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Diana is greatly well rounded as she started her career doing tinnitus research, cochlear implant research, & counseling/programming of cochlear implant patients. The bulk of her experience was spent working alongside Ear, Nose & Throat physicians to diagnose hearing loss. During the last few years, Diana entered into private practice to focus on counseling, hearing aid technology & amplification to improve hearing.

Diana's passion for hearing began while growing up with a brother with hearing loss. At 18 months, her brother was diagnosed with severe-to-profound hearing loss due to meningitis. At a very young age, Diana experienced first-hand the daily struggles a person with hearing loss experiences. She has dedicated her life to educating people about hearing loss & the importance of hearing health care.

"I enjoy the process of identifying hearing loss, educating my patients & their families on the impact of hearing loss, as well as providing education about realistic expectations & communication strategies. Most importantly, I enjoy working together to determine the best treatment plan to meet your unique needs."

Diana is a native of Iowa, born & raised in Ames. She has a wonderful husband & adorable son & daughter. Outside of the office, you'll find Diana spending time with her family, walking her playful puppy & teaching fitness classes.
